MALWARE USES BUILT-IN WINDOWS APPLICATIONS TO CARRY OUT A FILELESS ATTACK

New malware being increasingly used to harvest data from PCs using “fileless” attacks. Fileless means the initial attack is typically from a malicious email, using the inbuilt windows tools such as command line, powershell or vbscript the attack will launch and infect the pc by downloading additional payload.

This type of attack is not widely detected by current AntiVirus systems, Sonicwalls Capture Labs - sandboxing technology detects and prevents this in realtime.

Windows 7 Ends Jan 2020

Microsoft Windows 7 becomes end of life and support on January 2020. This means that no further security patches or upgrades will be available.

See Microsoft Lifecycle Fact Sheet

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

In practical terms most pcs running Windows 7 will be a few years old at best and due to be changed.  Most will be slower than modern pcs and reduce working efficiency. It is very important only to use pcs that have fully supported operating systems, especially from a Cyber Security position.

Windows 10 is the latest pc operating system from Microsoft and a good upgrade path to improve your PC fleet.
